Coffee in Greece is not like coffee anywhere else. This is something visitors discover quickly — usually on their first morning, standing at a café counter, staring at a menu that lists drinks they've never heard of, wondering why nobody is ordering a flat white.
The answer is the Freddo. Two versions: Freddo espresso and Freddo cappuccino. These are the dominant coffee orders across Greece from May to October, and once you understand what they are and why they work, you will order nothing else for the rest of your trip.
This is your guide to Greek coffee culture in Mykonos — what to order, what it means, and where to get it done properly.
What Is a Freddo Espresso?
The Freddo espresso starts with a double shot of espresso, pulled hot. The espresso goes directly into a cocktail shaker with ice and is shaken vigorously for 20 to 30 seconds. The result is poured over fresh ice in a glass.
What comes out is extraordinary: cold, intensely flavoured, with a thick layer of pale foam on top from the emulsification of the espresso oils during shaking. The foam is not milk — it is pure coffee, aerated. The flavour is concentrated, slightly bitter in the best possible way, with a clean cold finish.
This is not an iced coffee in the sense that most people know. It is not cold brew, not espresso over ice, not a Starbucks cold brew with syrup. It is something specific to Greece, developed here, perfected here, and served in every café and taverna in the country from the moment the temperature rises above 20°C — which in Mykonos is essentially always.
What Is a Freddo Cappuccino?
The Freddo cappuccino begins the same way — double espresso, shaken with ice until cold and foamy. But then something is added: cold frothed milk.
Cold frothed milk is exactly what it sounds like. Milk frothed using a steam wand or frother while cold rather than hot, producing a thick, dense, creamy foam. This foam is poured on top of the shaken espresso, creating a layered drink — cold coffee below, cold cream above — that is simultaneously refreshing and indulgent.
The Freddo cappuccino is richer, smoother and slightly less intense than the Freddo espresso. It is the most ordered coffee in Greece. There is a reason for this. It is one of the most satisfying drinks you can have on a warm morning.
At Mykonos Brunch Club, this is the coffee we make well. The espresso is pulled properly. The milk is frothed cold, not steamed. The foam is dense. The glass is cold. This is not a complicated drink but it is one that is easy to get slightly wrong, and we do not get it wrong.

Freddo Espresso — €6
Double espresso shaken with ice. Cold, foamy, intense. The purist's order. If you want to understand Greek coffee culture in a single drink, this is the one.
Freddo Cappuccino — €7
Double espresso shaken with ice, topped with cold frothed milk. Creamy, smooth, refreshing. The most popular coffee in Greece and the one we are asked about most often by guests who have never had it before.
Americano — €6
Hot espresso with hot water. For those who want something warm and familiar. Made with the same espresso as everything else — clean, balanced, no bitterness.
Cappuccino / Latte — €7
Hot espresso with steamed milk. The classic. Served properly — not too large, not too milky, with a proper microfoam texture.
Teas — €5
Greek mountain tea, green tea, black tea, mint. Served hot. For those who want something completely different.
Ceremonial Grade Matcha — from €7
This deserves its own mention. We are the only ceremonial grade matcha bar in Mykonos — sourced from Matcha Ninja, stone-ground organic tencha, served hot or iced in seven different creations. If you want to know more, read our dedicated matcha guide.
A Note on Greek Coffee Culture
Greece runs on coffee in a way that is different from most countries. In Italy, coffee is consumed standing at a bar in 90 seconds. In Scandinavia it is functional, drunk at desks. In the UK it is something you carry in a paper cup.
In Greece, coffee is an activity. You sit down. You take your time. The drink arrives with a glass of cold water. You do not rush. The table is yours for as long as you want it.
This is deeply compatible with what we do at Mykonos Brunch Club. We open at 9am. We serve until 4pm. Nobody rushes you. The terrace is shaded. The cobblestones are beautiful. The coffee is good.
A Freddo cappuccino on our terrace at 9:30am, watching Mykonos Chora wake up around you — this is one of the genuinely great small pleasures the island offers. It requires nothing except showing up.
Beyond Coffee — The Full Drinks Menu
Coffee is where most mornings start but it is not where they have to end.
Our fresh orange juice is pressed every morning. The hibiscus iced tea is made in-house. The smoothies — green detox, protein power, energy boost — are blended fresh. The agua fresca rotates between Jamaican hibiscus, pineapple, and raspberry-cucumber lime.
And then there are the brunch cocktails. We serve handcrafted frozen margaritas from 9am. Aperol spritzes. Bellinis. Mimosas. Because some Mykonos mornings call for something with a little more ceremony than coffee — and we believe in being the restaurant that makes that possible.
